Basic Skills – Many have missed out
It seems frankly astonishing that almost 70 million Europeans – around a quarter of the European adult population - struggle with the basic literacies of life including reading and writing, calculation, and using digital tools in everyday life. As well as significantly disadvantaging the life chances and opportunities of those lacking such skills it is a clear stain and indictment on the idea of Europe as a developed and civilised society.
