Recommendation on Library Legislation and Policy

On 5th April 2023, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe approved the Recommendation on Library Legislation and Policy in Europe, drafted in collaboration with EBLIDA.
This Recommendation reinforces active citizenship in a democratic environment and, beyond culture and education, focusses on the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. It also reinforces the social dimension of libraries and their commitment towards a sustainable, democratic and equitable society.
“I trust that this Recommendation will inform, inspire and orient administrators and librarians in re-shaping their policies and orient them towards mainstream concepts of sustainable development, democracy and social inclusion”, maintains Ton van Vlimmeren, EBLIDA President.

“No less than fifteen Council of Europe member States have commented on the Recommendation. The joint Council of Europe–LIBLEG Group processed these comments, finalized the text and transmitted it to the Committee of the Ministers. We are proud of having completed the whole process in only three years”, says Giuseppe Vitiello, Director EBLIDA. |
