The Hague, 26 July 2016
On 12 July 2016, WIPO Director General Francis Gurry proposed the appointment of Mrs Sylvie Forbin to the position of WIPO Deputy Director General of Copyright and Creative Industries Sector.
The appointment should be confirmed at the WIPO Coordination Committee, in its 72nd Session on September 12, 2016 in Geneva.
In consideration of Mrs Forbin’s CV and the renaming of the Sector she will head, EBLIDA together with a coalition of knowledge organisations from the civil society active at WIPO has issued a joint statement of congratulations.
It also highlights the challenges facing her in her new role, and the need to take a carefully balanced approach to benefit the public interest, taking account of the needs of rightsholders, users, research and education, thus reflecting the goals of copyright itself.
