Categories are:
- full member
- associate member
- basic or patron sponsorship for commercial organisations
Admission as full member is open to:
- professional associations in Member States of the European Union engaged on a national representative level in pursuing the interests of library and information science services;
- organisations in Member States of the European Union whose members are in a majority drawn from Member States of the European Union.
Admission as associate member is open to:
- similar organisations in European states which are not Members of the European Union;
- other organisations, institutes and individual libraries.
A full member has a voting right in the Council and can be elected onto the Executive Committee. An associate member has a seat on the Council, but has no voting right.
Basic sponsorship and Patron sponsorship are open to all commercial companies and includes the receipt of all written information and documents, but gives no status in the association. Both sponsor types have no voting rights but are granted distinct privileges in the association.
