Jill Martin, United Kingdom
Director, Membership Engagement & IT
CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals
jill.martin@cilip.org.uk

Jill Martin's career had included periods in a range of UK libraries - public, academic and commercial. She also spent a total of 11 years with the British Council, managing library and information services in Hong Kong, Lisbon and Moscow.

Jill joined the Library Association (one of the CILIP's predecessor bodies) in 1995 as International Coordinator. Since then she has occupied a number of posts and since 2004 has been Director, one of the management team leading the Institute through some difficult times.

Her responsibilities include central ICT services, the CILIP website, information and advice services to members, support to volunteer activists, careers work, and (happily still) international activities. Jill is a weekly commuter from a small village in a beautiful part of the UK's West Country, where she lives with her husband. She has three grown-up children - a teacher, a research chemist and a museum curator - and is a grandmother.

Mrs Erna Winters, The Netherlands
Managing Director
Public Library Kennemerwaard
e.winters@bibliotheekkennemerwaard.nl

Erna Winters started her library career as a volunteer at the age of 8 or 9, helping the local librarian to put the books on the shelves. Ever since then she wanted to be a librarian. After she finished the library academy she had several jobs in several public libraries across the Netherlands. First as an assistant librarian, and after a few years as head or managing director of the public library.

Public Library Kennemerwaard is the merger of the public libraries of Castricum, Heerhugowaard and Alkmaar. Erna was managing director of the new organization.

Her responsibilities include networking with local provincial governments, representing the library on national meetings and making connections between other institutions with which the library can cooperate on projects. It is also her goal to make the merger of the three organizations a success for the users of the public libraries.

Erna lives in Alkmaar, nearby the 16th century city centre. Her partner lives in the southern part of the Netherlands and during the weekends they spend their time either in the woods in the south or on the beaches near Alkmaar.
