Strategy, annual work programme and annual report
EBLIDA Strategy 2007-2010 (amended version)
In December 2006 a working group consisting of members of EBLIDA’s Executive Committee met in London to discuss the future direction of EBLIDA. A draft strategy was submitted to all EBLIDA members in a period of open consultation at the beginning of 2007 and approved finally at the EBLIDA Annual Council Meeting in Reykjavik in May 2007.
In broad terms the strategy continues to focus on issues of copyright and intellectual property rights in order to promote and fight for libraries and their central role in providing information and materials for the European citizen. Developments in digitization, online accessibility and issues of preservation also feature strongly in the strategy, not least in regard to the European Commission’s focus in this area and the establishment of the European Digital Library (EDL). To ensure the necessary competence in this area EBLIDA has established an expert group on digitization and online accessibility in 2007.
EBLIDA will continue to work with and form strategic alliances with other library and information organizations to ensure coordination in our efforts to provide the best possible framework for the institutions and organizations we serve.
The present European copyright legislation is, in many ways, ill equipped to deal with the future challenges of an online and digital environment and EBLIDA will continue to lobby for those changes which are necessary to ensure the best possible conditions for the user of library and information services in Europe.
The strategy plan covers:
• Mission statement
• Objectives
• Policy areas and lobbying means
• Membership
• Financial and human resources
• Communication
• Cooperation with other organisations
