OPFCON: "Open Sustainable Digital Preservation"

Date: 10 June 2020 to 10 June 2020
Location: Vienna, Austria or Online event

2020 marks 10 years of the Open Preservation Foundation. To honour this occasion, we invite you to join us at a global celebration on 10 June at the Austrian National Library in Vienna. OPFCON celebrates a decade of OPF, considers our impact on the community, and reflects on our role in the future of digital preservation.

As you will be aware, Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been confirmed as a global pandemic, and we have no doubt it is of concern to the digital preservation community. The OPF is paying close attention to new developments in the outbreak and we want to assure you that your safety and wellbeing is our priority. We have scheduled a series of checkpoints over the next few months to assess the latest information. Our first checkpoint was on Friday 13 March.

In consultation with our working group, we have agreed that if we are unable to run OPFCON as a face to face event in Vienna, we will run it virtually. The months after the summer break are already very crowded with existing and postponed conferences and we believe running the conference online in June means that many more people can join us for this celebration, whether working from home or back in the office. Anyone who has registered will receive a full refund of the conference fee in the event of OPFCON moving online.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will follow the latest guidance from local, national, and international authorities and the World Health Organisation. We have further checkpoints scheduled for Friday 27 March and Thursday 30 April and we will update this page with any decisions or new information.
