Ron Dekker

Ron Dekker started his career in labour market research at Maastricht University. In 1995 he moved to Tilburg University. During this period his research focus shifted to data management. The latter was his starting point at the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO): in 1997 he became the head of the Data Agency. Later he worked as a team coordinator on the Open Programmes at the Social Sciences Division and as head of the Central Programmes and Institutes Department. As of 2007 he is appointed as Director Institutes. In 2013 he was seconded part time to SURF as acting director and in 2014 he was seconded to the Ministry of Edcucation, Science and Culture as project leader Open Access in preparation for the Dutch EU Presidency.

At NWO he has been closely involved in setting up the Open Access policy for the research council. At the ministry Ron is elaborating on the national open access policy as well as seeking international support for the transition to access results of publicly funded research without financial and legal barriers. Open Access to publications and Optimal re-use of research data are priorities during the Dutch presidency of the Council of the European Union.
